2ND TEAM (STAGS)
SCUNTHORPE 43 – KEYWORTH 13
The Stags faced their first cup game of the season, playing hosts to Keyworth. The visitors set off with the intention of turning the score board by taking 3 early points despite a run of phases from Scunthorpe. The stags came hitting back with a try for vice captain James Lovell. Conversion missed 5-3 to the hosts.
The stags didn’t learn from their previous penalty infringement’s and gifted Keyworth another shot at goal at close range which the visitors took in their step 5-6.
A try came soon after with continuous strong carries from Scunthorpe making Keyworth step up in defence meant a gap behind the keyworth line allowed Henry Dawson to grabber through collect his own kick and dot down for the stags second. Conversion good 12-6.
Continuous attacking pressure from the stags saw Lovell cross over for his second of the day, conversion good. 19-6. Keyworth hit back with a strong pick and go from back of the scrum scoring and converting 19-13 half time.
The stags came out for the second half firing with young prop Alfie Taylor crashing over the try line, conversion good, 26-13.
It was then the backs turn to run through hands and release Will Horner through in a foot race to dot down in the corner, conversion good 33-13.
Amounting possession dominance from the stags saw multiple penalties be committed by Keyworth in which Dawson added another 3 to his tally for the day 36-13.
The stags final act of the day saw Alfie Oldridge break through the defensive line and sprint in to dive under the sticks, conversion good 43-13 full time.
Good performances see the stags step forward in the NLD cup.
